Family Events and Activities for May Half Term 2018.

Nottinghamshire has a wonderful variety of Family Friendly Events and Activities on offer this Half Term. Whether you're looking for low-cost days out, creative workshops or action-packed thrills, there's something for everyone here!

Tots Activity Spectacular at the Tennis Centre. NG72QH.

A free afternoon of fun for 0-5s as Nottingham Tennis Centre Tots Activity Spectacular brings together 3 exciting opportunities for you to come along and try.

The three activities are Tots Tennis, Toddler Yoga and Notts Gym Tots - do one, do them all... plus we will have fun crafts and party music to enjoy during the afternoon.

The event is free to attend so tell your friends and come along for a fun packed afternoon.

IntoTheClouds - Sensory fun for Babies and Toddlers.

intotheclouds is a playful, sensory and highly visual experience for very young children and babies created by innovative physical theatre makers Nonsuch. It’s a perfect first-time theatre experience for those aged 0-3.

The sensory experience will take place in The Space at Nottingham Contemporary and is free to attend. View event here

The Great Food and Drink Festival at Rufford Abbey. NG22 9DF.

Rufford Abbey will be replacing Nottingham Castle this year to host this very popular and successful event.

There will be lots of wonderful stalls and some fabulous chefs. James Martin will be there on Saturday. There will be some new entertainment areas added this year and plenty of entertainment for all of the family.

Lagoon Wipeout at National Water Sports Centre. NG12 2LU.

The popular Lagoon Wipeout is back and will be bigger and better than last summer!

Families can take part in the Aqua Challenge where there’s an inflatable obstacle course, slides, climbing walls, balancing beams, demolition balls, humps, basher walls and much more!

The Lagoon is open every day during School Holidays and every weekend in-between. It’s great for family and group days out and suitable for ages 8 and above.

Join this theme park for the Under 10s and help them celebrate their 50th Birthday. Visit any day from the 26th until the 3rd of June to enjoy a free cake!

Also on Saturday 26th May, a new ride will be opening called Monkey Mayhem Driving School.

Super Heroes and Princesses at Wheelgate Park. NG22 8HX.

Come to Wheelgate park dressed as a Superhero or a Princess and get a free day pass to Twinlakes park!

Join Wheelgate Park to take part in their Superhero and Princess Half Term. To claim a free ticket for entrance to their sister park, Twinlakes Park, all you have to do is visit dressed as a princess or superhero. Children can come with superhero masks, capes, tiaras, fairy wings… As long as you wear something superhero or princess themed as you enter you get your FREE ticket to Twinlakes Park. Trent Bridge Family Fun Day. NG2 6AG.

Defending champions Notts Outlaws take on Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup. There will be free family activities including face painting, bouncy castle, caricaturist, ground tours, autograph signings, the chance to play on the pitch at the interval and lots more!

Scavenger Hunt at Vicar Water Country Park. NG21 9AS.

Join the Rumbles at Vicar Water Country Park for a nature-based scavenger hunt! Families can explore the park and search to find all the mini beasts, birds, bugs and lots more.

There will be Activity Sheets available from the park cafe from 10 am till 2 pm, only £1 per child. Children will receive a small prize for taking part, all Activity Sheets need to be returned to the cafe before 4 pm to collect their prize.

Newstead Abbey Family Fun and Craft Fair. NG15 8NA.

Join Newstead Abbey for Bank Holiday fun to celebrate Spring!

There will be entertainment for the whole family including a Craft Fair, children's games and activities. There'll be a Teddy Bear picnic, so don't forget the teddy! Children can dress their teddy up and win a prize too.

If you fancy a family walk or picnic at Clumber Park, there will be a dance performance at the Discovery Centre. Fiddlesticks Northwest Clog Dancers and Musicians from Norfolk will be dancing at Clumber Park Discovery Centre from approximately 3.15pm. View event here.

Slime making at Cresswell Crags. S803LH.

Go and join in with the latest gooey craze of slime making at Cresswell Crags!

Children get to make their own slime and add additional extras such as glitter, food colouring and sequins. They also get to take it away in their own slime tub!

This is on every weekday throughout May Half Term, 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm and costs £3. There's more information about Cresswell Crags here.

29th May - June 1st

Fun Portraits (7-10 yrs) at New Art Exchange. NG7 6BE.

Inspired by artist Zanele Muholi and their exploration of identity. Children will use materials and objects to represent what they enjoy in life and create self-portraits, personalised backdrops and their own portrait book to take home.

These free workshops will be delivered over four daily sessions led by local print studio, Dizzy Ink. Advanced bookings are required, view here for more information and to book your place.

Self(ie) Expression (11-16 yrs) at New Art Exchange. NG7 6BE.

11 - 16-year-olds get to express themselves with portraits by developing their very own photography studio and photography zine. They will use a range of everyday products to create a makeshift studio ready for a photo shoot. Working as a team, they will act as creative directors and produce a zine to take home.

Tuesday 29th May

Tutu Making (no sewing) with Tilly Pots, Ravenshead. NG159DP

Children and parents, you can choose lots of different colours to create your very own Tutu at Tilly Pots, which you can take home on the same day. There's no sewing involved, however Children 5 and under will need parents help.

This workshop will last for 1 hour and 30 minutes and costs £12 per child.

Magical Kingdoms Week at Create! Art School. NG2 7NG

This Half Term Children are making magical houses and characters!

There'll be clay sessions for older children and pre-school sessions at 9.30 and 10.30 on Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th and Friday 2nd June.

There are only a few spaces available for these sessions! The classes will be grouped into - Preschoolers (£7), 4-6-year-olds (£10) and ages 7 and up (£15).

Woodland Fun with Muddy Feet Outdoors. NG12 4FT

Join Muddy Feet for lots of outdoor fun in their beautiful woodland location this half term. Their Half Term sessions have no lower age limit and are open to preschoolers and their older (primary school aged) siblings.

Muddy Feet aim to let children explore and learn through nature, with the emphasis on child-led play and letting them get their hands dirty. All sessions and Holiday Activities are lead by a Forest Schools trained practitioner.

Rainbow Stripes 15th Anniversary Party at Rough Trade. NG1 3AJ

Join the celebrations and get musical with the fabulous rainbow Stripes! This is a 2-hour special for 0-5-year-olds. Rainbow Stripes will provide their songs and entertainment followed by free face painting, cake, dancing and balloons.

Free Pirate Play in the Park (by Rumbles at Vicar Water Country Park)

This free event for the family will be providing Pirate activities, a soft play area for under 5s, a Pirate inflatable, face painting. All ages are welcome! Feel free to turn up anytime between 1pm-3pm, at Vicar Water, café end.

Book and Bake! Get you and your little one booked in to bake your own tasty pizza where you can choose the toppings.

These activities are popular so booking is essential! To book a place for this activity please call 0115 915 6878.

Griswold Gang Holiday Crafts at Framework Knitters Museum.

Join the Griswold Gang this May for School Holiday Kids Crafts! 

The Griswold Gang is the museum’s very own school Holiday Club. Set up in summer 2017, the club is open to children of all ages and offers a range of textile and craft-based activities in the Chapel Art Gallery.

The Wheee! Festival at Lakeside Arts. NG7 2RD

The Wheee! is a fantastic free family weekend full of art, dance, theatre and crafts. There will be lots of activities plus outdoor theatre and dance performances to entertain family members of all ages. The fun starts at midday so enjoy the grounds of Lakeside Arts with a picnic and get settled to soak up the action!

Paddle in the park! Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham. NG12 2LU

Paddle in the Park at Holme Pierrepont has plenty of action to keep families entertained. There will be workshops for different levels of paddlers to progress their skills and the weekend promises lots of fun to suit all ages and abilities.
