Half Term Activities and Events - February 2018

You might love to use the School Holidays as a chance to go with the flow, you may enjoy having a loose itinerary or activities booked in to ward off boredom.

We've pulled together a list of Half Term events, workshops and activities. You can choose to book something in and relax knowing your week has a plan, or know what activities you can pop along to on any day that suits your flow!

Festival of Science and Curiosity 14th - 21st February

There's a wonderful feast of activities, talks and interactive workshops on offer throughout the city during this fantastic Festival of Science. Some of the events on offer include -

Explorers at Broadway Cinema. Saturday 17th Feb

Broadway Cinema will be offering playful workshops, interesting talks and interactive experiences from some of the UK’s most talented techies, artists and scientists.

Families can get hands-on with exciting experiments, try the latest gadgets, games and technology and join workshops where they can make, learn and play.

There will be specialised workshops and fun activities including -

•Code-A-Drone 
•Glitch art 
•Stop motion animation 
•Virtual Reality demonstration

This event is on from 10 am - 6 pm and is for children aged 8 and above.

Hands-on Science at National Videogame Arcade. Saturday 17th Feb

Join the National Videogame Arcade and get involved in exciting scientific experiences for the whole family.

Some of the interactive games and activities include:- learning how gravity affects light, finding out about space worms and problem-solving with maths. Other activities include learning about microscopes, magnets and discovering the wonders of human perception with optical illusions!

Family Science at Central Library - Saturday 17th

Nottingham Central Library is offering free Half Term fun for the whole family.

Children can learn about star constellations, renewable energy, smart-city technologies and the microbes inside our bodies! They can also try writing poetry with computer code, watch live chemistry experiments and join in on many other activities at the Library.

Night from the Museum – get hands-on with Wollaton Hall’s taxidermy collection and activities about animals’ sleep patterns

Maths Games – lateral thinking games with ropes

Curiosity Corner – engage your curiosity with fun activities

Game of Fuels Board Game – sessions running from 1 pm

Code Club East Midlands – have a go at working as a family to write your own computer game, with expert help on hand

Ugly Bread Bakery - Build a Character workshop. Monday 19th Feb.

Build a Character workshop at Ugly Bread Bakery

Join this free workshop where families can create a character together, build a story around their character and then tell their story to the rest of the group!

All materials will be provided, just turn up and join in.

This workshop is held at Ugly Bread Bakery at their Market Street venue. The event starts at 3 pm and finishes at 5 pm.

Nottingham Contemporary. 20th - 25th February

Nottingham Contemporary - Paper Journeys.

Get creative this Half Term with The Nottingham Contemporary. Join other families in their huge activity area 'The Space' and make a giant folding book after you've enjoyed a walk around the galleries.

Half Term activities are on every day (except Mondays) during School Holidays and all activities are free for the whole family. The fun starts at 11 am and finishes at 3 pm each day.

There's no need to book, you can all just drop in and stay as long as you like!

Stonebridge City Farm. 19th - 25th February

Stonebridge City Farm 

Every day at Stonebridge City Farm you and your family can walk around the farm feeding the animals, join in on scheduled animal handling and enjoy the bouncy castle and gardens.

Each day has a different featured activity -

Monday 19th - BeatFeet Drumming Workshops (45-minute sessions) 1.30pm and 2.30pm. £1.50

Tuesday 20th & Wednesday 21st - Cookie Decorating in the cafe, 1.30 - 3 pm. £1

Thursday - Egg Hatching. From 12 pm onwards.

Friday - Rainbow Stripes will be providing Music, singing and dancing. 11am-12pm. £1

White Post Farm. Half Term Fun every day!

White Post Farm 

White post farm is always a popular treat during School Holidays. You can experience a great day out and enjoy their wide variety of outdoor and indoor activities. There's a wonderful mix of animals, birds and reptiles, an outdoor play area, indoor soft play and much more!

This Half Term, children can meet the amazing Unicorns, enjoy Interactive Story-time, watch stunning birds of prey and get involved with some crafts to take home.

Greens Windmill

Greens Windmill and Science Centre. Various Half Term Workshops

There's a great mix of baking and creative workshops taking place at Greens Windmill. This Half Term they are providing the following workshops -  

Saturday 17th -  Salt Dough modelling.  45 minute sessions at 11am, 11.45am, 12.30pm & 1.15pm. Prices are £3 per child and the workshops are for ages 3 years and up.

Thursday 22nd - Biscuit making30 minute sessions at 11am, 11.30am, midday, 12.30pm, 1pm & 1.30pm. Prices are £4 per child, for ages 3 years and up.

Friday 23rd - Light Night Spectacular Puppets! As part of the Puppet Festival, you can join a free day of fun. Make your own puppet using recycled materials and glowsticks from 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm

Saturday 24th - Mini Pizza making. 30 minute sessions at 11am, 11.30am, midday, 12.30pm, 1pm & 1.30pm. Prices are £5 per child, for ages 3 years and up.

Kids Crafts with Blissful Balance at Folks and Fables. Bingham. Monday 19th February.

Kids Crafts with Blissful Balance

This Half Term term, you and your children will be in for some fun-filled creativity whilst you enjoy the fabulous food and drink at Folks & Fables.

Their previous events were very popular, so this Half Term they are running two workshops. Children get to indulge in the range of crafts and activities, explore the different materials and make something to take home.

The craft workshop costs £7.50 per child and each session is limited to 10 children. The workshops last 1 hour and start at 10 am and 11.15am.

Dr Suess themed workshops with Create!

Create! run popular art classes and craft workshops for children of all ages. As well as Holiday Clubs, they run classes for preschoolers, birthday parties, private tuition and much more.

This Half Term their Holiday Club has an exciting theme, the wonderful Dr Suess!

Their Classes Run the week beginning 19th February 2018. Each morning they're running preschool drop-in sessions at £6 for a 45-minute art session and each afternoon they're running their Holiday Club classes for school children.

Nottingham Playhouse. Family Fest.

This Family Fest will provide a variety of fun workshops throughout Half Term including -

Monday 19th - Enchanting Journeys Workshop. An introduction to theatre for your children where they can learn basic performance skills. The workshop will be BSL interpreted.

There are 2 sessions 10.30am - 12pm for ages 4 - 8 and  2pm - 3.30pm for ages 8 - 12.

This workshop costs £5 per child.

Tuesday 20th - Magical Music Workshop. Families will be creating enchanting music and lullabies inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. For ages 4 - 8 and families.

This session is 10.30am - 12pm. All abilities are welcome and the workshop costs £5 per child

Wednesday 21st  - Adventures on the Moon workshop for children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. The family are welcome to attend the mission to rescue a shooting star. This is a fun multisensory adventure not to be missed!

There are two sessions 10.30am - 12pm for ages 4 - 8 and 2pm - 3.30pm for ages 8 - 12. The cost is £5 per child.

Thursday 22nd -A Midsummer NIght’s Dream workshop children aged 4 - 8 and families will delve into the mystical world of Shakespeare, fairies and fantasy.

This workshop is 10.30am. -12 pm and costs £5 per child.

Friday 23rd -Shimmer and Shake Dance families get to dance and have fun! This is a creative movement session for ages 4 - 8 and their families.

This session is 10.30am - 12 pm and costs £5 per child.

Cresswell Crags. Build a Bird Box.

Join Cresswell Crags this February Half Term for some exciting crafts and activities!

Activities will link to the current exhibition and the natural wonder of forests and the environment.

•Make a bird box with ornithologist, Jack Baddams.
•Create a bright and beautiful bird collage.
•Join in with a workshop by local artist, Michelle Reader.
•Handle our collection in the exhibition.
•Learn about the wellbeing of the birds at the Crags.

Workshops are running on Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd of February.

Each day will start at 10:00 - 15:00 and costs - £4 per nest box.

Harley Gallery - Paint a Pot and other workshops

Monday 19th - Clay day. Families can get messy and experiment with different techniques including slab and coil building. Suitable for children aged 4 and above and costs £5 (includes 1 1lb ball of clay).

Tuesday 20th - Circus Hats and Headdresses. During this 2-hour workshop, Harley Studio artist Michelle Reader will assist in helping you create your own circus hats and headdresses inspired by exhibition Circus Work. Suitable for children aged 4 and above and costs £6 per child.

Wednesday 21st - Puppet Play. Make your own circus themed shadow puppet. £2.50 per child

Thursday 22nd - Paint a Pot. A circus-themed Paint a Pot session! Once decorated, your pot will be professionally glazed and fired in our kiln. It will then be available to pick up from Reception after a week. This will be great fun for all ages and costs £5 studio fee per person, per session. All pottery items are individually priced and are not included in the ticket price.

Friday 23rd - Circus Skills workshop. Join a free play session and circus skills workshop with Ria and Kay from Circus Hub Nottingham. Have a go at juggling, hula hooping and plate spinning plus much more. the workshop is suitable for children aged 4 and above. Sessions are hourly and cost£2.50 per session.

Slime Making at Tilly Pots, Ravenshead. Friday 23rd

Slime Making at Tilly Pots

Children will get to make some lovely colourful slime! They can take the slime home in tubs at the end of the session.  Each slime making session will last for 1 hour and we will be making different coloured slime. Sessions times are 10am - 11.30am - 1pm - 2.30pm - 4pm and cost £7.50 per child (per session).

Sensory Children's Theatre - Into The Clouds

Intotheclouds is a new, work in progress performance and light installation in development by Nonsuch.

It will be a magical sensory adventure for 0-3-year-olds and their families, intotheclouds will transport audiences to creative and imaginative worlds through interactive and entertaining experiences.
